Rotherham United part company with manager Steve Evans

Rotherham United part company with manager Steve Evans and assistant Paul Raynor.

Rotherham United have announced that the club have parted company with manager Steve Evans, who had been in charge of the Millers for the last three years.

The Championship outfit have suggested that the split was mutual, with both parties wishing to head in 'different directions'.

Rotherham, who have secured back-to-back league victories following seven games without a win this season, have also released assistant coach Paul Raynor.

A statement on the club's official website read: "During [a] meeting it became clear that both parties at the present time wished to head in a different direction. The meeting was at all times positive, constructive and straightforward. It was clear that the Chairman and the management team only wanted what they felt was best for Rotherham United Football Club.

"The club would like to place on record our thanks to Steve and Paul for their huge contribution over the last three and a half years, it has been simply an incredible journey.

"It has all come as a surprise but Rotherham United must move forward and the search for a new first-team manager will begin immediately. Replacing Steve Evans and Paul Raynor will indeed be a strenuous task for the board."

During his spell at Rotherham, Evans oversaw 72 victories, 45 draws and 56 defeats, while also guiding the team to two promotions.

Eric Black has been installed as interim manager.
