Rotherham United cruise to Blackburn Rovers win

Rotherham United beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0 to pull away from the Championship relegation places.

Rotherham United eased their relegation fears with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at the New York Stadium this evening.

The Millers took the lead inside five minutes as Kari Arnason reacted quickest to a threatening set piece before the Icelandic international sent his low strike beyond the reach of Jason Steele.

Despite the early loss of Kirk Broadfoot through injury, United continued to pose problems in attack and Alex Revell's accurate cross was almost turned goalwards by Luciano Becchio.

However, the former Leeds United forward wouldn't be denied for long and bagged a fortunate goal on 32 minutes when Steele's clearance bounced back into the net off the Argentine's body.

Paul Taylor tried to put Rotherham into an unassailable position, but he couldn't guide his free kick on target.

After the restart, Rovers looked to pull an early goal back, but Shane Duffy, Grant Hanley and Chris Taylor were all frustrated by a resolute Millers defence.

Rotherham had chances to add further misery themselves as Revell missed three chances to score midway through the second half.

On the other hand, Blackburn found clear-cut chances increasingly rare with Ben Marshall's near miss on 69 minutes as close as they came to a reprieve.

United held on for the victory, which pulls them further away from the Championship drop zone.
