James McCarthy wants Roy Keane to be named as new Republic of Ireland boss

Everton midfielder James McCarthy believes that Roy Keane would be a worthy replacement of Giovanni Trapattoni as Republic of Ireland boss.

Everton midfielder James McCarthy believes that the new Republic of Ireland manager should be former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane.

The 42-year-old, who has had managerial stints at Ipswich Town and Sunderland, has been named among the contenders to replace Giovanni Trapattoni.

"A few names have been thrown around – Martin O'Neill and Mick McCarthy maybe, but it would be great to work under Roy Keane," The Express quotes McCarthy as saying.

Trapattoni stepped down from his role yesterday following Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat to Austria.
