Real Madrid missed the chance to return to first position in La Liga after drawing 0-0 at home to Malaga on Saturday.

The hosts had a number of excellent chances during the entertaining contest at the Bernabeu, but could not find a way past Carlos Kameni, who had a wonderful game in the Malaga goal.

The result has left Real Madrid in second spot, while Malaga, who had Nordin Amrabat sent off late on and still have not scored in Spain's top flight this season, sit 15th.

Here, Sports Mole has taken a closer look at how each player performed in Madrid.

REAL MADRID

Goal

Keylor Navas: Has been in excellent form since the start of the season and that continued here. Made a couple of super stops and was strong and confident from everything that came into his box. (7/10)

Defence

Dani Carvajal: Was never afraid to break forward and the Spaniard was a threat with his pace and crossing ability in wide areas. Set up some opportunities, but his teammates could not finish. (7/10)

Nacho: Has not had a lot of football over the last couple of seasons, but was given a start here and can be pleased with his performance. Made a couple of vital challenges in the second period. (7/10)

Raphael Varane: Has played alongside Sergio Ramos, Pepe and now Nacho this season, but always looks comfortable at the back. That said, Amrabat did cause the Frenchman some problems in Madrid. (7/10)

Marcelo: Like Carvajal, was not afraid to get forward and played his part in a number of good moves in the Malaga half. Difficult to be too crucial of Real Madrid from a defensive aspect. (7/10)

Midfield

Luka Modric: Was a key contributor in the final third as Real Madrid dominated for long spells of the match, but the Croatian's final ball was just below his normal high standard. (7/10)

Toni Kroos: Has not really been himself in the early stages of the new season. Kept things moving in the middle of the park, but failed to really put his stamp on the game. (6/10)

Isco: Had a wonderful chance to open the scoring at the end of the first period, but saw his low attempt edge wide of the post. Always a threat, just would not go in for the Spaniard. (7/10)

Attack

Cristiano Ronaldo: Could have had six or seven goals at the Bernabeu. Caused absolute havoc with his pace and movement, but the Portuguese just did not have his finishing boots on. (6/10)

Karim Benzema: Has been in excellent scoring form this season, but this was a fairly disappointing performance from the Frenchman. Struggled to make his mark for long spells. (6/10)

Jese Rodriguez: Had a couple of really good chances during an energetic performance, but the Spaniard did not have that finishing touch and was forced off injured just past the hour. (6/10)

Substitutes

Mateo Kovacic: Was a surprise that the Croatian did not start after such a strong performance against Athletic Bilbao last time out, but he struggled to make his mark in the final 30 minutes here. (6/10)

MALAGA

Goal

Carlos Kameni: Man-of-the-match performance from the Cameroon goalkeeper, who made a whole host of excellent saves. Was a key reason why Malaga secured a share of the spoils. (9/10)

Defence

Roberto Rosales: Found Marcelo difficult to contain when the Brazilian drove forward, but the full-back was ultimately part of a Malaga defence that produced a fantastic rear-guard performance. (7/10)

Marcos Angeleri: Ronaldo must have thought that he had scored early in the second half, but Angeleri came from nowhere to clear off the line. Had a really strong game in central defence. (8/10)

Weligton: Like his fellow centre-back, Weligton also made a goal-line clearance in the second half. Used all of his experience and know-how to help keep the away side's clean sheet in tact. (8/10)

Miguel Torres: Picked up the game's first booking for dissent, but recovered his concentration to produce an excellent performance. Strong at both ends of the field in the capital. (8/10)

Midfield

Juan Carlos: Had a super chance to break the deadlock in the first period, but fired wide from close range. Was always prepared to support Amrabat during what was an energetic performance. (8/10)

Recio: Came close with a header in the early stages, before bringing a wonderful save from Navas in the second half. Had an eventful game in the middle of the park for Javi Gracia's side. (8/10)

Fernando Tissone: Tasked with protecting his back four and while the Argentine performed that job for long spells, Real Madrid did have a lot of joy just outside the Malaga box. (7/10)

Pablo Fornals: Will forever remember his Malaga debut at the Bernabeu. The 19-year-old was calm and confident in possession and put in an excellent shift in the final third. (7/10)

Adnane Tighadouini: Caused Real Madrid problems with his pace and movement in the first period, but the midfielder struggled after the break and was eventually replaced by Juanpi. (6/10)

Attack

Nordin Amrabat: Would have been getting an 8/10 here, had he not been sent off late on. Was terrorising Real Madrid's defence, but saw red for throwing an elbow into Marcelo's face late on. (5/10)

Substitutes

Juanpi: Was thrown on the final 20 minutes and while the Spaniard was involved in a number of smart moves late on, he also picked up a booking for a show of dissent. (6/10)

Ricardo Horta: Had a wonderful chance to win it for Malaga in stoppage time, but his close-range attempt was deflected wide of the post. Showed good energy in the final 10 minutes. (6/10)
