Sergio Ramos: 'Spain should not change'

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos insists that Spain need to change their "identity" following a disappointing World Cup.

Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos does not believe that La Roja need to change their "identity" following a disappointing World Cup.

Spain entered this summer's tournament in Brazil as the European and world champions, but failed to make it out of the group stages, losing heavily to Netherlands in the process.

However, Ramos has insisted that Vicente del Bosque does not need to alter the style despite key midfielders Xavi and Xabi Alonso both retiring from international duty.

"I don't think there's a theme of a change," AS reports Ramos as saying.

"The national team has always had its identity and that shouldn't change even if players have left the team. We are here to help the new players adapt in the best way but in the end we all go to do things right.

"Both Xavi Hernandez and Xabi Alonso were important to the team, fundamental in the years of success, but we must not forget there's a new generation with great enthusiasm and quality."

Spain face France in a friendly on Thursday evening.
