Diego Simeone content with points return

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone insists that he is pleased with his team's start to the new La Liga season, despite losing two of their first seven matches.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has insisted that he is pleased with his team's return of 13 points from their opening seven games of the new La Liga season.

The capital outfit have dropped points in three of their seven fixtures thus far, but avoided a third defeat when they came from behind to claim a point in a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Sunday.

Simeone has said that his new players must be given time to settle and with that in mind, "13 points at this stage is a good return".

"We must bear in mind that the players who have joined came from important teams but are still very young, and it's not easy to integrate into a structure like Atletico's," Simeone told reporters.

"Still, 13 points at this stage is a good return. We've now played against Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Villarreal, but it's still a competitive League and the most entertaining, despite all the injuries to the top teams."

Atletico are only three points off league leaders Villarreal, who have won five of their seven games this season.
