Gareth Bale 'not guaranteed' starting spot at Real Madrid

Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement says that Gareth Bale will not be guaranteed a place in the team, despite his world-record price tag.

Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement has claimed that new world-record signing Gareth Bale should not expect to walk straight into the starting XI.

The Wales international made the move from Tottenham Hotspur to the Bernabeu on Sunday for a reported £85m fee, but Clement has stated that the 24-year-old will have to fight for his place.

"There's a lot of competition for places, no-one will be guaranteed anything," Clement told BBC Sport.

Bale, who is currently on international duty with Wales, could make his debut against Villarreal on September 14.
