Sergio Ramos: 'Paneka penalty not premeditated'

Spain defender Sergio Ramos says that his 'Panenka penalty' in last night's 5-1 win over Macedonia was not premeditated.

Spain defender Sergio Ramos has claimed that he had not decided to "shoot a Panenka" in last night's 5-1 win over Macedonia until the very last second.

Ramos converted Spain's first of the night in the Euro 2016 qualifier with a chipped penalty down the middle, but it was not premeditated, according to the Real Madrid centre-back.

"It wasn't my intention to shoot a Panenka, but I saw the goalkeeper move and I made a decision. I should've shot it like that in Washington and that's why I decided to do it today, but what's most important wasn't the penalty or the goal, it was the team's win," Inside Spanish Football quotes the defender as telling reporters.

"We need to have patience and confidence in the roles the incoming players may have in the team. This was a positive win and we should continue along this path."

Paco Alcacer, Sergio Busquets, David Silva and Pedro also netted for La Roja last night.
