Carlo Ancelotti: Real Madrid played "very badly"

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti admits that his side played "very badly" in their 4-3 second-leg defeat to Schalke in the Champions League.

Carlo Ancelotti has said that his side played "very badly" in their Champions League second-leg defeat to Schalke 04 this evening.

The defending champions were booed off at the Bernabeu after losing 4-3, but they progress to the quarter-finals because of their 2-0 success in the first leg last month.

At his post-match press conference, the manager said: "I'm very sorry, as everyone saw, we played very badly and that is bad for our image. All the criticism we get is justified.

"We need to look at our defence, that's where all our errors were. No team has put 4 past us at home. We lacked organisation.

"We're professionals, we don't make ourselves look ridiculous. It's not easy to explain what's happened, we've lost confidence."

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice for the defending champions before Karim Benzema added their third.
