Head-to-head record
Previous meetings: 28
Real Madrid wins: 12
Draws: 4
Bayern wins: 12
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich fans could be forgiven for being sick of the sight of one another by now, as their sides have now crossed paths on 28 occasions in competitive action, and neither team has been able to build up a dominant streak over the other.
Indeed, both sides have 12 wins to show against the other, while there have been just four stalemates, although two of their last three Champions League contests have ended with the spoils shared.
A four-goal thriller in the first leg of their 2023-24 semi-final saw Vinicius Junior (two), Leroy Sane and Harry Kane make the net bulge for the second successive 2-2 draw between the two former European Cup winners, a result which also appeared in the top left-hand corner during the second leg of their 2017-18 semi-final.
Bayern were seemingly up against it at the Bernabeu before Alphonso Davies's rocket, but the Canadian had only prodded the Blancos bear, and the unlikeliest source in substitute striker Joselu turned the tide with a dramatic late brace to complete Real's latest astounding comeback, one which preceded their 15th European coronation.
Back to the 2017-18 edition, and Real Madrid had already prevailed 2-1 at the Allianz Arena before their four-goal draw en route to winning the trophy, and Los Blancos are now on an eight-game unbeaten streak against FC Hollywood, who they also eliminated from the 2016-17 quarters and 2013-14 semis.
Not since the 2011-12 semi-finals have Bayern managed to get the better of the 14-time continental champions, prevailing on penalties before appropriately suffering similar heartbreak in the final against Chelsea, although they are winless in eight away games versus Real across 90 or 120 minutes.
Bayern have to go back to the 2000-01 semi-finals for the last time that they triumphed on Real Madrid territory, getting the job done in the first leg thanks to a Giovane Elber effort, and they have now managed to progress from just four of their previous eight semi-final ties with Los Blancos.
However, the aforementioned 1-0 success also represents Bayern's most recent clean sheet against Real Madrid, who have since made the net bulge in 17 straight games against the Bavarians, and Cristiano Ronaldo unsurprisingly leads the way with nine efforts to his name.
From the pitch to the dugout, and the 2023-24 results going their way also means that Real boss Ancelotti has not lost any of his 10 Champions League clashes with Bayern - masterminding seven victories - and no coach has ever amassed such a long unbeaten sequence against one team in Europe's premier tournament.
