Half-Time Report: Derby County being held by Reading

Derby County dominate the opening 45 minutes against Reading but the score remains goalless in the League Cup third-round tie.

Championship sides Derby County and Reading have both failed to break the deadlock before half time in their League Cup third-round fixture.

The Rams started the better of the two sides with on-loan winger Jordan Ibe causing problems for the Reading defence, but it was midfielder Will Hughes who dragged their only opportunity wide of the target.

Derby continued to dominate play as the half reached the midway point but after Craig Bryson could only strike a 20-yard shot wide, Leon Best saw an effort well saved by Mikkel Andersen after he had been sent clear on goal.

Best was again in the thick of the action when he headed over from eight yards, before Hughes showcased his ability with a run into the box but his pull-back evaded his teammates.

Reading had created nothing in the final third, but after a Derby mistake, Hal Robson-Kanu found himself behind the defence but Kelle Roos was on hand to keep the score at 0-0.

Derby had a late chance through Ryan Shotton, who headed wide from close range, but the Rams couldn't find a breakthrough against a stubborn Reading side.
