Mark Warburton faces one-match touchline ban

Rangers manager Mark Warburton is offered a one-match touchline ban by the SFA after confronting referee John Beaton following his side's 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has been offered a one-match touchline ban by the SFA for his behaviour following his side's defeat to Aberdeen on Sunday.

Warburton confronted referee John Beaton over the decision to award Aberdeen a late free kick that ultimately led to James Maddison's last-gasp winner at Pittodrie.

The former Brentford boss has now been issued with a notice of complaint by the SFA, which has charged him with misconduct after he "entered the field of play and repeatedly used offensive, abusing and insulting language towards match officials".

Warburton has until Monday to respond to the charge, with a hearing initially pencilled in for October 13.

However, the 54-year-old has been given the option to serve a one-match ban during Saturday's game against Partick Thistle at Ibrox if he accepts the charge before then.
