Injury-time Robert McHugh goal gives Queen of the South first-leg advantage

Queen of the South record a comeback 2-1 victory against Falkirk in today's Scottish Premiership playoff first-leg clash at Palmerston Park.

Queen of the South have recorded a comeback 2-1 victory against Falkirk in today's Scottish Premiership playoff first-leg clash at Palmerston Park, thanks to Robert McHugh's brace.

Mark Beck had the first chance of the game when he connected with a cross from Will Vaulks after just two minutes, before Derek Lyle's effort for the home team was comfortably saved by Michael McGovern.

The deadlock was broken after just eight minutes, when Blair Alston powered a shot past Zander Clark to give the Bairns the lead.

The away side continued to press on after their goal, with Scott Shepherd and Clark coming close just a few minutes later.

Midway through the first half, Falkirk could have made it two, but David McCracken's header flew past the post.

McHugh was at hand to score the equalising goal for the home side in the 56th minute of the match, when Andy Dowie sent a header across to the Motherwell loanee, who made no mistake from close range.

Just as it seemed that the tie would be poised on a knife edge, the 22-year-old struck again in injury time to seal the win and send the home crowd into raptures.

Queen of the South now have the advantage ahead of Saturday's return leg at the Falkirk Stadium.
