Queens Park Rangers sign Huddersfield Town keeper Alex Smithies

Goalkeeper Alex Smithies signs a three-year contract with Queens Park Rangers after an agreement was reached with Huddersfield Town for his transfer.

Queens Park Rangers have made their 11th summer signing with the capture of goalkeeper Alex Smithies from Huddersfield Town.

The 25-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Loftus Road after the two Championship clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

"QPR is the ideal opportunity for me. I have worked hard and now is the time for a new challenge," Smithies told the R's website.

"Being at a club that was recently in the Premier League, there is going to be a lot of expectation to push on and improve, and I think I will thrive off that."

Smithies was Huddersfield's longest-serving player, having made 272 starts since making his debut in 2008.
