Harry Redknapp plays down Queens Park Rangers' promotion hopes

QPR boss Harry Redknapp insists that nobody is getting carried away with the club's lofty league position amid talk of a promotion push.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has moved to play down the prospect of his team earning automatic promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Redknapp's men moved level on points with Leicester City at the summit of the Championship tonight, as goals from Charlie Austin, Junior Hoilett and Matt Phillips secured a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at Loftus Road.

Despite sitting second in the table on goals scored, the 66-year-old insists that nobody is dreaming of a return to England's top flight just yet.

He told the club's official website: "We've just got to keep picking up results and take one game at a time. Nobody's getting carried away, there's a long way to go."

The West London outfit saw their promotion hopes dented by the 2-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, but the former Tottenham Hotspur coach acknowledges the importance of bouncing back immediately.

He added: "It was important we got back to winning ways after a disappointing result on Saturday. It was a disappointing day – probably the only disappointing day since the season started."

QPR host Blackburn Rovers in the capital on Saturday, before travelling to Bloomfield Road for a clash with Blackpool the following week.
