David Beckham knows that he will have to work hard to earn a place in Paris Saint-Germain's startling lineup.

David Beckham has said that he does not expect to be an automatic starter for Paris Saint-Germain and must work hard to break into the team.

The 37-year-old completed a move to the French capital during the January transfer window, but will play no part against Bastia this evening as he continues to work on his fitness.

The former England captain said that he is itching to get started in Ligue 1.

"I don't expect to come in to this team and to be a starter in the teamsheet," Ligue1.com quotes Beckham as saying.

"I've never expected that wherever I have gone. I'll work hard for my place, I'll work hard to make the team successful.

"It's going to take me a couple of weeks at least to get up to speed with the rest of the team, but I've always kept myself pretty fit. I don't think it's going to take me long to be up to speed. I want to get playing as soon as possible to be honest."

Beckham spent five years in Major League Soccer with the LA Galaxy.
