New Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has insisted that winning the Champions League is not an "obsession" for either him or the club.

The 40-year-old has won a host of trophies during his illustrious career, but the Champions League has so far eluded him despite reaching the final on three separate occasions.

PSG's free-spending owners are also understood to have prioritised European club football's top prize over any other trophy, but Buffon - who joined the French champions on Friday - insists that he does not regard winning the competition as an obsession.

"[It is not] an obsession for me and neither for Paris Saint-Germain. I think I can also help PSG to grow a bit on the pitch so then we can aim for even more important goals," Buffon told reporters at his official unveiling.

"PSG intrigued me a lot because of the talent in the team, but they were not enough to make the leap.

"As in all experiences, I think it takes time and PSG overlooks a stage so important for a few years. The coach also played a fundamental role."

Buffon spent 17 years with Juventus before leaving the Italian champions at the end of last season.
