Half-Time Report: Peterborough United coast into 3-0 lead over 10-man Tranmere Rovers

Peterborough sail into a 3-0 lead over Tranmere at half time, with goals from Tommy Rowe, Tyrone Barnett and Grant McCann inflicting the damage.

Peterborough United have coasted into a 3-0 lead over 10-man Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park, courtesy of goals from Tommy Rowe, Tyrone Barnett and Grant McCann.

Posh, who have not won their four opening games of the season since 1961, have made significant inroads toward breaking that 52-year record throughout the opening half.

Lee Tomlin, whose goal was the difference against Oldham Atletic last week, spotted Rovers goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams off his line from 25 yards out, but his audacious attempt to lob the Welshman dropped narrowly wide.

Darren Ferguson watched on as his side took control of proceedings and monopolised possession, and it would not be long before the visitors saw their dominance pay dividends.

Rowe put his team ahead on 14 minutes, sweeping a left-footed shot past Fon Williams.

The hosts struggled to assert themselves on the game, and before long it was two. Michael Bostwick played in striker Barnett, who confidently found the right-hand corner of the goal.

Things went from bad to worse for Ronnie Moore's men, though, as debutant Andrai Jones was dismissed for hauling down Barnett in the area, with Grant McCann converting from 12 yards to give the visitors a seemingly unassailable lead at half time.
