The first chance of the match fell to the home side when Massimo Donati forced Jean-Francois Gillet into making a good save.

The Torino goalkeeper was called into action minutes later when he had to keep out Jasmin Kurtic's attempt with his fingers.

Kurtic tried his luck once again with a long-range effort, but he was denied by a flying Gillet.

Palermo finished the first half on a stronger note, with Ezequiel Munoz and Edgar Barreto coming close to breaking the deadlock.

Torino, though, almost took the lead minutes into the second half when Rolando Bianchi was sent through on goal, but Samir Ujkani brilliantly closed down the forward.

Fabrizio Miccoli's arrival on to the pitch as a second-half substitute saw Palermo take control of the proceedings, with Barreto firing just wide of the post.

Josip Ilicic should have scored for the home side eight minutes from time when he was sent through by Miccoli, but he shot wide with only Gillet to beat.
