Gary Birtles keen for Nottingham Forest to sign Jordan Rhodes

Former Nottingham Forest striker Gary Birtles hopes that the club can secure the services of Blackburn Rovers forward Jordan Rhodes.

Gary Birtles believes that Jordan Rhodes would prove to be "a heck of a signing" for his former club Nottingham Forest.

Despite the recent insistence of Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer, it is believed that the Scottish striker could be about to leave Ewood Park on loan.

Alongside Middlesbrough, Forest are said to be interested, and Birtles feels that if the Tricky Trees can work around their transfer embargo, they should do all that they can to sign the 25-year-old.

"I am not sure how Forest can sign him given the embargo they have in place at the moment and the kind of money he would command, but he would be a heck of a signing," he wrote in the Nottingham Post.

"I've watched him play on numerous occasions and he's a goalscorer plain and simple, somebody who will guarantee you 20 goals a season.

"If Forest were able to engineer a deal, and we don't know if it's possible, then to have him for the run-in would give their playoff chances an unbelievable shot in the arm."

Rhodes has scored 13 goals for Rovers this term.
