Norwich City cruise to victory over Huddersfield Town thanks to second half romp

Five second-half goals allow Norwich City to cruise past 10-man Huddersfield Town at Carrow Road.

Three goals in the first six minutes of the second half were enough for Norwich City to ease past 10-man Huddersfield Town 5-0 at Carrow Road.

The visitors worked tirelessly after Murray Wallace had been dismissed in the 17th minute, but could not keep their efforts up after the break as Neil Adams's side romped to victory in the Championship.

A brace from Bradley Johnson either side of a Nathan Redmond header secured City all three points, offering them some slight momentum after their first win in five games last weekend.

Town were left to rue Murray's second red card of the season, having made a bright start.

Striker Nahki Wells hit the crossbar on 12 minutes, after John Ruddy had stopped his first attempt.

Five minutes later, an error from Mark Hudson placed last-man Wallace in trouble, and the defender chopped down Cameron Jermone, leaving the referee with no option but to produce a red card.

Unsurprisingly, the Canaries took control, with Johnson, Gary Hooper and Jonny Howson all testing Alex Smithies.

The best chance of the first half fell Jerome's way, with his free header looping over the bar when it looked easier to score.

Norwich did not dwell on that, though, and came out firing after the interval to quickly put the result beyond doubt.

Less than a minute after the break, Hooper played a clever back-heel into Johnson's path, leaving the midfielder with a simple finish to give his team the lead.

Redmond doubled it just two minutes later, heading home a Martin Olsson cross, and Johnson quickly added a third by nodding in a rebound, after Howson had seen a volley blocked by Smithies.

The one-way traffic continued, with Jerome scoring the fourth on 69 minutes following a lovely move. Redmond had plenty of time to pick out Hooper, whose knockdown was prodded home by his strike partner.

Tiring by the minute, the 10 men of Huddersfield were punished even further by substitute Lewis Grabban, who scored with his first touch of the afternoon to put the icing on the cake for Norwich.
