Norwich City manager Neil Adams resigns

Championship side Norwich City confirm that Neil Adams has decided to resign from his position as the club's manager.

Neil Adams has stepped down from his position as manager of Norwich City with immediate effect.

The 49-year-old replaced Chris Hughton at the Carrow Road helm towards the end of last season, but he was unable to keep the club in the Premier League.

He remained in charge as the ongoing Championship campaign got underway in August, but despite a positive start, the Canaries have since dropped out of the promotion places.

With the exception of Saturday's FA Cup exit at the hands of League One outfit Preston North End, results had recently been more positive, but Adams has decided that the time is right for him to resign.

"I firmly believe that we are still on course for a crack at promotion back to the Premier League. That is where this club belongs," he told the club's official website.

"However, I feel it is in the best interests of the team that an immediate change is made in order to ensure a positive impact on results.

"It goes without saying that I sincerely hope the team achieves success this season and I would like to say a huge thank you to the supporters who have backed me during my tenure as manager."

Norwich have confirmed that first-team coach Mike Phelan will take charge of the side until a successor is appointed.
