Chris Wilder: Oxford United visit a "perfect" test for Northampton Town

Chris Wilder wants his Northampton Town side to bounce back from their barren run by claiming maximum points against local rivals Oxford United.

Northampton Town boss Chris Wilder has said that he believes this weekend's meeting with Oxford United will provide the "perfect game" for his side.

The Cobblers find themselves five points adrift of their opponents ahead of Saturday afternoon's local derby at Sixfields.

Wilder, who spent six years in charge of Oxford, expects his players to rise to the occasion in the big League Two showdown in order to reward frustrated supporters.

"I think it's the perfect game for us," he told the club's official website. "It's a great game, Oxford are going well and I'm sure they will come here fancying their chances but this is a crackers league and on any given day any result is possible.

"There will be a great atmosphere and the players will have to rise to the challenge and the occasion. We really want to get ourselves going again and we know that we owe ourselves and the supporters a performance and a result."

Northampton, currently 16th in the table, have won two of their opening six league games this term.
