Preview: Brondby vs. Nordsjaelland - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's Danish Superliga clash between Brondby and Nordsjaelland, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Nordsjaelland could move top of the Danish Superliga table with only one match of the season remaining by beating Brondby away from home on Monday.

The hosts, meanwhile, are fighting it out with an out of sorts Randers side to finish fifth.

Having finally ended 16 years of pain by lifting the club's 11th Danish Superliga title in 2021, Brondby have failed to sustain that level of quality in the ensuing two seasons.

The Boys from Vestegnen ended up in fourth position last time out, but they have no chance of even matching that finish given that fourth-placed Aarhus are seven points ahead of them with only six points to play for.

Perhaps most disappointingly of all, Brondby crashed out of the Danish Cup at the third round, with second division side Aarhus Fremad thrashing them 4-0 at Riisvangen Stadion.

As such, Jesper Sorensen's side have little beyond personal pride at stake between now and the end of the campaign, with their opponents hoping that will help them in their efforts to secure a crucial victory on Monday.

Indeed, Nordsjaelland are aiming to win the Danish Superliga title for only the second time in the club's history after their famous triumph in 2012, which was backed up by a second-placed finish in the following season.

However, considering that the Tigers have only managed to finish in the top three positions of Denmark's top tier once across the decade since, their fierce title challenge against Copenhagen has come from no where this time around.

That is especially true after falling to a lowly ninth-placed finish last time out, but Johannes Thorup has worked wonders since replacing Flemming Pedersen in the dugout earlier this year.

Thorup's side kept their title hopes alive with a crucial 3-2 win against Copenhagen - who lead them by one point ahead of the last two games of the season - earlier this month, although a 1-1 draw against Aarhus in their following match allowed the reigning champions to move back to the top of the table.

Thorup and his players must hope that either Viborg FF or Randers can do them a huge favour by taking points from Copenhagen within the next week, otherwise Nordsjaelland's remarkable efforts will ultimately be in vein regardless of their own results.

Team News

Brondby will remain without former Valencia utility man Daniel Wass due to suspension after his straight red card against Copenhagen earlier this month, while Mathias Greve is unlikely to feature due to a knock.

Sorensen may reward the same starting XI that claimed a creditable 1-1 draw against high-flying Viborg last time out by making no alterations to his team at Brondby Stadion.

Nordsjaelland, meanwhile, will travel without Martin Frese and former Brentford midfielder Emiliano Marcondes due to injury, with neither player likely to return before the end of the season.

Likewise, after registering an impressive 3-1 win against Randers last weekend, Thorup is unlikely to make any changes at such a crucial point in his side's campaign.

Brondby possible starting lineup:
Hermansen; Alves, Lauritsen, Tshiembe; Mensah, Riveros, Radosevic, Evjen, Vallys; Kvistgaarden, Omoijuanfo

Nordsjaelland possible starting lineup:
A Hansen; Villadsen, K. Hansen, Nagalo, Svensson; Bidstrup, Dorgeles, Diomande; Nuamah, Osman, Nygren

We say: Brondby 1-1 Nordsjaelland

Although Brondby have little to play for in terms of fighting for titles or European qualification, they remain one of Denmark's most prestigious clubs and will want to reward their fans with a strong performance in their last home game of the season.

As such, we can envisage Nordsjaelland dropping points, which would mean they will require Viborg to avoid defeat against Copenhagen earlier on Monday to realistically remain in the title race ahead of the final day of the campaign.
