Preston North End confirm former Stevenage boss Graham Westley as their new manager.

Graham Westley has been confirmed as the new manager of Preston North End after compensation was agreed with former club Stevenage.

Westley, 43, replaces Phil Brown at Deepdale after the former Hull City boss was sacked last month.

The new North End boss enjoys a growing reputation in football after guiding Stevenage from the Blue Square Bet Premier to League One with back-to-back promotions. He was also in charge of the club for the club's historic FA Cup win over Newcastle last season.

"It is a privilege to be handed the reins at this historic football club," Westley told Preston's official website.

"When you see images of men like Sir Tom Finney, Alan Kelly and Bill Shankly looking back at you from the stands at Deepdale, you get a very clear sense of the responsibilities that you are accepting.

"My job is to do my very best to re-ignite the club's on-field performance and in the first instance help the club to punch at its weight. We will take things on from there."

Preston currently sit 14th in League One, six points and seven places below Westley's former club Stevenage.
