Michel Platini wants Sepp Blatter to leave FIFA

UEFA president Michel Platini has stated that he will not back Sepp Blatter or challenger Jerome Champagne in next year's FIFA presidential election.

UEFA president Michel Platini has stated that he refuses to back incumbent Sepp Blatter or challenger Jerome Champagne in next year's FIFA presidential election.

Blatter has declared that he will run for a fifth consecutive term as FIFA president, after coming into power in 1998.

However, Platini believes that it is time for Blatter to leave the role.

"I supported him in 1998 because I think he was the right person at the time but after successive terms it is time to let some fresh air in and leave the place to someone else," BBC Sport quotes the Frenchman as saying.

"The image of FIFA is very, very, very bad so that's why I think it would be good that Blatter stops, but I don't think he wants to."

The election will take place on January 29.
