Paolo di Canio 'named Swindon manager'

Paolo di Canio will shortly be named as the new manager of Swindon Town.

Paolo di Canio is to be named as the new manager for Swindon Town "shortly", according to BBC Radio Wiltshire.

The Italian had previously been hoping for the top post at former club West Ham - recently relegated to the Championship - but conceded that he would be happy at the helm of a team "in an inferior division".

Di Canio was one of eight people interviewed for the Swindon job last week following the dismissal of manager Paul Hart in April. The club has been relegated to League Two after finishing bottom of the table for the season.

During his playing career, di Canio was dogged with controversy, most notably accusations of racism when he made a series of fascist hand gestures to crowds in Italy.
