David Gill elected FIFA vice-president

David Gill is elected FIFA vice-president, beating off competition from Welsh Football Association president Trefor Lloyd Hughes.

Former Manchester United chief executive David Gill has been elected FIFA vice-president.

The 57-year-old saw off competition from Welsh Football Association president Trefor Lloyd Hughes to land the role.

UEFA members voted for Gill at the organisation's annual congress in Vienna.

Gill will replace Northern Ireland's Jim Boyce, who has been Britain's FIFA vice-president since 2011.

Gill joined the board of the Football Association in 2006 before becoming vice-chairman in 2012. He left Manchester United in 2013.
