Lord Sebastian Coe believes that England's failed 2018 World Cup bid was due to the Football Association's lack of influence on the world stage.
Coe, who was part of the campaign, has successfully overseen London's 2012 Olympic and 2017 World Athletics Championship bids.
"I don't think English football has enough people of influence at the highest level of the game," he said.
"I think in track and field we clearly now do. I think in the Olympic world we clearly now do.
"But I think football doesn't really punch its weight in those corridors."
London's World Championship win was announced on Friday after they beat Doha in the final vote.
