Newcastle are still hoping to secure the services of PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters.
Alan Pardew has made the 23-year-old a key target for the Magpies this summer, tabling a deal worth £6m.
According to the Daily Mail, the manager was in attendance for the side's 3-0 win over Ado Den Haag yesterday.
Of the proposed deal, Pieters said: "I'm open to this step, it seems a great challenge.
"But if it fails, I am not disappointed. My agent must report to me when it is really concrete. I have not heard yet, so I wait."
Newcastle moved to sixth in the table after a 1-0 win away at Sunderland on Saturday.
