Fulham target Newcastle United's Danny Simpson

Fulham are ready to test Newcastle United's resolve over contract rebel Danny Simpson.

The former Manchester United full-back, whose current deal expires in July 2013, has recently been linked with a move away from the Sports Direct Arena after refusing to sign a contract extension for the best part of 12 months.

The 25-year old has reportedly been offered around £25,000 a week, a significant improvement on his current contract, but still a a lot less than what many of the club's first-team players earn.

However, Simpson has indicated that he wants to stay with the Magpies and insists that money is not his motivation.

"I'm not a greedy player and I just want to be on par with the other players around me. In football terms, what I'm asking for is by no means outrageous," said Simpson.

"I want to stay at this club and I've been saying that all season. I've recently had a baby, I'm happy here and so is my family."

The Craven Cottage outfit are ready to make a move for the defender as boss Martin Jol sees Simpson as good competition for Stephen Kelly, according to the Northern Echo.
