Lee Bowyer: 'Charlie Austin should join Newcastle United'

Lee Bowyer believes that Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin would be better suited to a move to Newcastle United than West Ham United.

Former Newcastle United and West Ham United midfielder Lee Bowyer has said that Charlie Austin should pick the Magpies over the London side.

The Queens Park Rangers striker is expected to leave Loftus Road following the club's relegation from the top flight, with Newcastle and the Hammers both thought to be interested.

The former England international told talkSPORT: "I think he would be better suited up in Newcastle. West Ham have got a couple of forwards already. They have got big Andy Carroll, they have got [Diafra] Sakho who scored a few goals last season.

"Newcastle, I can't think of any of their strikers but Cisse, and he wants to leave. He would be loved up at Newcastle if he starts scoring some goals. They are great fans and he should hit the ground running if he decides to go there."

Austin scored 18 goals in 36 appearances for QPR last season.
