Steven Taylor says that Newcastle United were lucky that Victor Anichebe's header wasn't awarded as a goal in their draw with Everton.

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has conceded that his side were lucky to draw at Everton on Monday night.

Demba Ba came off the bench to twice equalise for the visitors and earn a 2-2 draw for the Magpies after Leighton Baines and Victor Anichebe had put the hosts in front on two occasions.

The night's most controversial incident came when Anichebe appeared to have a header cross the line but saw play waved on, and Taylor admits that his side were fortunate that the goal wasn't given.

"We've had a look at it and for me it does look like it was past the line so we got lucky," the defender told Newcastle's official website.

"But sometimes you need that. For Newcastle United, a few years ago we wouldn't have got that.

"We've got players who work hard day in, day out, players who want to get in the team and put pressure on each other. That's what we need and I think today was just a great example of what a hard team performance is."

Newcastle now sit 11th in the Premier League, while Everton are seventh.
