Ayoze Perez: 'Sunderland defeat was unfair'

Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez insists that his side's defeat to Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby was an unfair result.

Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez believes that his side didn't deserve to lose their Tyne-Wear derby match against Sunderland.

The Spaniard and midfielder Moussa Sissoko both had second-half efforts well saved by Costel Pantilimon before Adam Johnson fired a 90th-minute winner for the Black Cats to send Gus Poyet's men to their fourth straight victory over their bitter rivals.

"It was a souring defeat so we aren't very happy about it, but now we are focusing on the next game and we need to bounce back," Perez told the club's official website.

"Personally, I think I just need to keep playing well and give my best for the next game so I can help put us in a position to bounce back.

"Overall I think it's an unfair result considering that we played so well, but it goes to show that if you don't score and take your chances the result won't always reflect how well you play."

Newcastle are next in action against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.
