Joe Kinnear reveals that Alan Pardew is "delighted" to have the 66-year-old as Newcastle United's new director of football.

Newcastle United's new director of football Joe Kinnear has revealed that manager Alan Pardew was "delighted" to be informed of his appointment.

The 66-year-old is expected to be officially confirmed as the club's new director after he announced that he will return to the club on a three-year deal.

"Before I had a meeting with Mike, Derek [Llambias] said he's informed Alan, and Alan said 'Great news, I'm delighted with that. At last I've got somebody who's a football guy'," The Chronicle quotes Kinnear as saying.

Kinnear previously spent a five-month stint at St James' Park as manager.
