Malcolm Macdonald: 'Papiss Cisse doesn't understand offside rule'

Former Newcastle United striker Malcolm Macdonald insists that Papiss Cisse must learn the offside rule if he is to rediscover his form at St James' Park.

Former Newcastle United striker Malcolm Macdonald has insisted that opposing teams have found out that Papiss Cisse struggles to understand the offside rule.

Cisse's form has deteriorated since he burst onto the scene at the start of 2012, but after failing to score during the current Premier League campaign, Macdonald has urged the Senegal international to seek advice from strike partner Loic Remy.

The 63-year-old told Sports Direct News: "Remy's doing exceedingly well, he's very quick and he gets his timing right.

"I just wish Papiss Cisse would take notice of what Loic Remy does because Cisse doesn't understand the offside rule and how to work it as a forward.

"Until he does, he's not going to be worth anything to Newcastle United at all because other sides have seen his weakness and now play on it."

Cisse's solitary goal this season came in the Capital One Cup against Leeds United.
