Charlton Athletic report Newcastle United to Premier League

Charlton Athletic lodge a complaint against Newcastle United following a bid for their goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

Charlton Athletic have reported Newcastle United to the Premier League about their conduct regarding a bid for one of their players.

The Addicks' complaint relates to a recent bid of £100,000 from Newcastle for goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

The London club turned down the offer and were advised by their North East counterparts that the details would remain confidential.

However, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew reportedly broke that agreement earlier this week by discussing the deal to reporters as he looks to replace Celtic-bound Fraser Forster.

Charlton's chief executive Steven Kavanagh has said that his club have now raised their concerns with the Premier League.

"It is very disappointing that Alan Pardew has decided to make public an offer for Robbie Elliot despite assurances to the contrary that wouldn't happen from club officials," Kavanagh told the club's website.

"The offer was rejected within minutes, and Newcastle then confirmed they no longer had an interest in the player.

"We have contacted the Premier League to register our concern at public statements being made by Newcastle after they withdrew their interest."

Elliot, 25, became Charlton's number one keeper in 2008.
