John Carver: 'Newcastle United could get relegated'

John Carver warns Newcastle that relegation is certainly a possibility unless they start picking up much-needed victories.

John Carver has warned his Newcastle United side that relegation is still a possibility after losing 1-0 to North-East rivals Sunderland.

Jermain Defoe's thunderous volley on the stroke of half time proved enough to snatch the bragging rights and give rise to fears of relegation for the Magpies.

With a nine-point cushion between the drop zone, it is believed that Newcastle will avoid dropping into the Championship, but Carver warns that victories are a must to guarantee their survival.

"I am getting fed up with the question of our season being dead. You try telling our fans that. We can't have that. The guys in the dressing room have to do something about it," he told BBC Sport.

"We have 35 points and that might not be enough. We need to go and win some games."

United now have an eight-day recovery period ahead of travelling to Liverpool next Monday.
