Jeremain Lens has been shown a straight red card during a heated goalless first half between the Netherlands and Colombia in Amsterdam.

The 25-year-old Dynamo Kyiv forward was dismissed by referee Florian Meyer on 35 minutes for an aggressive push on Pablo Armero, who escaped unpunished after aiming an off-the-ball kick at Lens.

Rafael van der Vaart then limped off the field and had to be substituted after being injured by a dangerous tackle from Abel Aguilar, who received a yellow card.

Siem de Jong also left the field prematurely, having picked up a knock during an innocuous looking challenge.

In terms of football, the opening 45 minutes has disappointed. However, Louis van Gaal's men, who are unbeaten in their last 16 games, have been the noticeably better side.

The hosts have recorded six shots, all off target, but they did go close to breaking the deadlock on seven minutes when Van der Vaart struck the crossbar from long range.

Meanwhile, Colombia have yet to record a single shot.
