Napoli leapfrog Juventus to reclaim top spot in Serie A thanks to a 1-0 win over SPAL at Stadio San Paolo on Sunday afternoon.

Napoli have returned to the top of the Serie A table thanks to a 1-0 win over SPAL at Stadio San Paolo on Sunday afternoon.

Juve had leapfrogged the Partenopei to the summit with a 1-0 defeat of city rivals Torino in the Derby della Mole earlier in the day.

However, Maurizio Sarri's charges broke the deadlock after just six minutes against SPAL, Allan capping off a fluid team move by drilling home low into the net, and never looked back as they claimed all three points.

Prior to Allan's goal, Lorenzo Insigne had struck the opposition post, while Jose Callejon almost doubled his side's lead in the first half as his back-post volley was parried by Alex Meret.

At the other end, Federico Viviani's strike from distance forced a save out of Pepe Reina, while in the second half, both sides traded blows in a bid to claim a second of the match, but Napoli would not be pegged back.

The result sees Napoli a point clear of Juve in first place with a club-record ninth successive victory in a single Serie A season, while SPAL remain in the bottom three of the table.

NAPOLI (4-3-3): Reina; Hysaj, Albiol, Koulibaly, Rui; Allan, Jorginho (Diawara 90+1'), Hamsik (Zielinski 71'); Callejon (Rog 86'), Mertens, Insigne

SPAL (3-5-1-1): Meret; Salamon, Vicari, Felipe; Lazzari, Viviani, Schiattarella, Grassi (Floccari 75'), Drame (Costa 62'); Kurtic; Antenucci (Paloschi 85')
