A Mark Beevers header and a Lee Gregory penalty helped Millwall sneak past a valiant Port Vale 2-0 at Vale Park this evening.
Jak Alnwick produced two good saves early on to keep Millwall at bay. First, he tipped Ed Upson's effort over the bar, before getting down low to save Steve Morison's header from the resulting corner.
Morison kept Alnwick busy with two more headers, as Ebo Andoh gave Vale their best chance of the first half with a looping nudge that Jordan Archer did well to tip over the bar.
Millwall finally made it past Alnwick after the break when Beevers arrived at the back post to bury a Shaun Williams corner into the back of the net.
Andoh fired over and Anthony Grant saw a long-range shot sail wide as Port Vale looked to get something out of the match, but it was not meant to be as Alnwick brought down Gregory in the last play of the game, the striker stepping up to slot his own penalty home.
Millwall have now overtaken the home side as they jump to 12th in League One, while Vale remain with nine points in 14th.
