Louis van Gaal targets Kevin Strootman for Manchester United?

A report claims that Louis van Gaal would try to sign Kevin Strootman if he is appointed the new manager of Manchester United.

Louis van Gaal has reportedly made Kevin Strootman one of his major transfer targets, should he be appointed the new manager of Manchester United.

Reports in the Netherlands have claimed that the 62-year-old has agreed terms with the Premier League club to replace David Moyes, who was sacked last week following a 10-month stint at the helm.

Should the appointment be confirmed, Van Gaal will look to boost United's midfielder options by signing Roma midfielder Strootman, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Van Gaal, currently head coach of the Dutch national side, would almost certainly have selected the 24-year-old for this summer's World Cup, but a knee injury has ruled him out of contention.

However, it is believed that the former PSV Eindhoven player will recover in time for the start of the new Premier League season.

As well as Strootman, United have been linked with a host of players, including Edinson Cavani, Luke Shaw, Toni Kroos, Cesc Fabregas, William Carvalho and Marco Reus.
