Louis van Gaal admits Kevin Strootman interest

Louis van Gaal says that he will "wait and see" how Kevin Strootman recovers from a six-month layoff before acting on his interest to sign him.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has admitted an interest in signing Roma ace Kevin Strootman - but not until the midfielder proves his long-term fitness.

The 24-year-old has emerged as a reported target for United, with Giallorossi coach Rudi Garcia recently stating that his man is not for sale.

Strootman has been out of action since March following a knee injury, ruling him out Van Gaal's Netherlands side in the World Cup.

Consequently, the 62-year-old has reservations over signing a player off the back of a six-month absence, but says that he will "wait and see" how Strootman recovers.

"I never say anything about individual players. It is my vision that we talk about a team and not individual players," he told reporters ahead of tonight's clash with Roma in Denver.

"Strootman I can judge, but he is injured for more than six months. We have to wait and see how he comes back.

"It is not easy to say how he comes back from injury, but we will wait and see."

The former PSV Eindhoven starlet is contracted to the Rome club until 2018.
