Manchester United take Liandro Martis on trial

Manchester United take young forward Liandro Martis on trial.

Manchester United have taken young forward Liandro Martis on trial with a view to offering him a permanent deal.

The 20-year-old hails from the Caribbean island of Curacao and had spells with Feyenoord and Willem II before being taken on trial with League One side Oldham Athletic this summer, when he caught the eye of scouts from United and Premier League champions Leicester City.

Martis revealed that he has now been offered deals by both clubs, as well as the Latics, and is getting close to making a decision on his future.

"I went into Leicester for a day and felt comfortable and got an offer," he told The Sun. "Then I went into Manchester United for a week and received good feedback from Warren Joyce and could have earned a deal had I waited, but I just want to get my career started.

"I am confident in my ability. I've played a number of games to obtain fitness and have done well. I played against League Two Crewe and scored and laid on an assist and then played in a game with Tranmere where I help set up a number of goals, before I went Oldham and scored against a championship Preston.

"Oldham have offered me a deal and we have been in negotiations for two weeks. I am nearing a decision on my future and I want to make the right decision for the next stage of my career."

Martis has one cap for his national side, earned in 2012 during a friendly with Aruba.
