Manchester United are understood to be considering a move for Joao Moutinho as their search for a playmaker hots up.

Manchester United could be closing in on Portuguese playmaker Joao Moutinho according to The Sun.

United are understood to have approached Porto after failing to secure number one midfield target Luka Modric.

Modric has long been the subject of speculation surrounding a move to Old Trafford but both the transfer fee and wages have proved stumbling blocks in negotiations so far.

Cheaper alternative Moutinho could be following in the footsteps of international colleagues Ronaldo and Nani by making a move to Manchester.
