Paul Scholes: 'Manchester United should move for Mesut Ozil'

Paul Scholes suggests that Manchester United should attempt to sign unsettled Arsenal attacker Mesut Ozil.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has suggested that the Red Devils should attempt to bring unsettled Arsenal attacker Mesut Ozil to Old Trafford.

Ozil has only made two appearances for the Gunners this season after falling out of favour under Unai Emery, and it is widely thought that the German will leave the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window.

Scholes has claimed that United "could do with someone like Ozil", hinting at a possible move for the 31-year-old, who could be a 'short-term answer' for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

"Man Utd could do with someone like Ozil who can link a team together. [He is] a player who can link teams together. He has got great quality, he's shown that in his career," Scholes told BT Sport.

"He could be an answer short-term, I don't know. I think that would be up to him, ultimately. I can't [see it happening], but he's the type of player, short-term, who United could do with."

Ozil - again left out for Arsenal in the Europa League on Thursday night - has scored 43 times in 233 appearances for the Gunners since arriving from Real Madrid in 2014.

The attacker has a contract with his London club until the summer of 2021.
