Report: Manchester United to move for Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo

Jose Mourinho is reportedly considering a move for Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo, as he attempts to plug Manchester United's troublesome left-back position.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has targeted a move for Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo, according to a report.

The 22-year-old is said to have been monitored by the Red Devils' scouts of late, while Mourinho got to watch the defender up close during his side's 1-0 win in Lisbon earlier this week.

Grimaldo, who came through Barcelona's famed La Masia youth ranks, was previously rumoured to be a target for Manchester City soon after heading to the Estadio da Luz last year.

Following some impressive displays at the back for Benfica, The Sun claims that United are weighing up a move for the Spain Under-21s international to plug their troublesome left-back position.

Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw have missed out through injury, forcing Mourinho to field Daley Blind and Ashley Young out of position, but the report suggests that the Portuguese will now consider buying out Grimaldo's contract.
