Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe rules out bid for Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe suggests that he has no interest in signing Manchester United forward Cristano Ronaldo during either transfer window in 2023.

Eddie Howe has effectively ruled out Newcastle United ever making an approach for Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Throughout the summer transfer window, Ronaldo was heavily linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford, only for the veteran to fail to attract sufficient interest or for United to be tempted into a parting of the ways.

The 37-year-old has since endured a frustrating start to the campaign, making double the amount of starts in the Europa League than he has in the Premier League.

Ronaldo's second start of the domestic campaign came against Newcastle on Sunday afternoon as the two sides played out a goalless draw.

The Portugal international cut a frustrated figure as he was withdrawn from the action with 18 minutes remaining, a reaction which casts further doubt about his future.

With Ronaldo seemingly lacking options when it comes to top European clubs, Newcastle's financial firepower will automatically see them suggested as a realistic alternative.

However, Howe has given every indication that the Magpies are not in the market for players who are reaching the end of their careers at the top level.

Speaking to reporters, as quoted by 90min, Howe said: "We're trying to provide long-term growth, we've got a longer-term vision.

"At the moment, we have quite an ageing squad, so we need to invest more in young players. That's probably a big part of our progression, we need to get the average age down.

"So, it might not be a signing that we would necessarily look to make, but that's not under-estimating the quality of the player."

In total this season, Ronaldo has made six starts and six substitute appearances in all competitions, contributing a goal apiece in domestic and continental action.

Despite his outing from the starting lineup at the weekend, it has been perceived that Ronaldo is currently behind Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the pecking order when each player is fit.

Meanwhile, Howe already has Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson and Chris Wood at his disposal, although the Englishman revealed on Sunday that the former, who is the club's record signing, will be absent until December through injury.
