Jose Mourinho coy on new Anthony Martial contract

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho refuses to discuss reports that Anthony Martial is in talks over a new five-year deal with the club.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has refused to comment on speculation that the club are in talks with Anthony Martial over a new long-term contract.

Mourinho was reportedly willing to let Martial leave the club this summer in order to raise funds for new arrivals, but speculation has since suggested that he was overruled by chief executive Ed Woodward, who believes that the winger has not yet fulfilled his potential.

Martial is now thought to be discussing the possibility of a new five-year deal at Old Trafford, with his current contract due to expire next summer, albeit with the option of a further year on top of that.

The negotiations have been interpreted in some quarters as evidence that Martial believes he will outlast Mourinho at the club, and the Portuguese boss would not divulge any further information on the situation.

"We have to wait until that is official," he told reporters when asked about the contract talks at his pre-match press conference.

Martial has featured in just one of United's three Premier League games so far this season.
