Jose Mourinho: 'I am one of the greatest managers in the world'

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho insists that he remains "one of the greatest managers in the world", despite his side's poor start to the season.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that he remains "one of the greatest managers in the world", despite growing speculation over his future at the club.

Mourinho has come under scrutiny during the early stages of the season following reports of unrest behind the scenes and back-to-back Premier League defeats.

However, the former Chelsea boss once again pointed to his past record as evidence that he is among the world's elite in his job, reiterating that last season's second-place finish was one of his biggest achievements, despite ending up 19 points behind champions Manchester City.

"I am the manager of one of the greatest clubs in the world but I am one of the greatest managers in the world. I had great success last season and that's probably what you don't want to admit," Mourinho told reporters.

"Two seasons ago we had a fantastic season because we won the Europa League. This season and last everybody thought Atletico Madrid was amazing because they won the Europa League after being knocked out of the Champions League.

"We won it because it was our level. We are the last team in England to win a European competition. I'm the only manager to win eight titles, in Italy, Spain, England. And by winning eight titles - not small titles or countries - my second position last season is one of my greatest achievements in football."

Mourinho's United will look to avoid a third successive Premier League defeat when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.
